Our Origin Story
Saturday Scribe began as a monthly ritual for founder Vondell J. Burns—unplugging, finding a cozy café, and letting pen meet paper. What started as a rhythm of personal creativity soon revealed itself as a Divine download: writing is not just for writers but a way to bring forth what is unseen—made even more powerful when done in community.
Guided by Habakkuk 2:2 — “Write the vision; make it plain…”, Saturday Scribe became a shared practice. The first gathering on January 18, 2025, at Origin Coffee in Tulsa opened the door to a BRAVE space where people could return to hope, reconnect with their inner child, and discover the power of words together.
What We Believe
Writing First
We gather primarily to write. While community is beautiful, we protect the sanctity of the creative space by dedicating at least one full hour to putting words on the page.
Embrace Diversity
Our community welcomes writers of all backgrounds, genres, voices, and experiences, celebrating the richness of different literary traditions.
Respect Boundaries
Sharing is always optional. We honor the privacy and process of each writer, creating a brave space where vulnerability is welcomed but never demanded.
A Typical Session

Arrive & Settle (10:00 AM - 10:15 AM)
Order coffee, meet fellow writers, and find your perfect corner of creativity. First-timers are warmly welcomed into our circle.

Intros & Icebreaker (10:15 AM - 10:30 AM)
Introduce yourself, welcome newcomers, and remind everyone about the WhatsApp community for updates.

Prompt & Brainstorm (10:30 AM - 10:45 AM)
A facilitator shares the day's writing prompt. Take time to explore ideas, jot down concepts, and prepare your creative mind.

Free Write (11:00 AM - 11:40 AM)
The heart of our gathering. Pens move across pages, keyboards click, and the room fills with creative energy as we each dive into our unique worlds of words.

Brainstorm Debrief (10:45 AM - 11:00 AM)
The post brainstorm debrief is where the magic happens. Listen as people share what the prompt brought out of them. Let it inspire your free write.

Optional Sharing (11:40 AM - 12:00 PM)
For those who wish to share, this is your moment. We listen with care—not to critique, but to celebrate the courage of creation.

Closing Ritual (Group Photo)
We capture the moment with everyone together, documenting the journey of this creative community.
